7-Day Mental Diet

Week 13: knowledge vs certainty (part 2)

I feel as though I sort of left yesterday’s post unfinished, now that I think about it more, and while I was doing my readings I kept mentally adding enough edits that it seemed best to just write a second part and be done with it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today I’ve been thinking about how our current situations came to be, whether good or bad, prosperous or impoverished, in turmoil or at peace. And one thing which jumped out at me was that we didn’t have to do exercises or say affirmations or make a blueprint or exert any sort of effort in order to get where we are now.

Or did we? What goes running through your brain all day? I submit that those are your affirmations. What do you read about, watch, and talk about? What do you focus on? Those are your exercises. What are you certain of, in times of either stress or celebration? That is your blueprint.

The problem is that we have had this blueprint put on us since we were born by other people: parents, teachers, the TV, movies, songs, the news, and so on. These tell you who you are, what you should be, what you deserve, how much money it’s okay to have, where you can go, what you can do, what you can believe, how you can act, when/where/how it’s okay to eat/have sex/take care of your children, what you should look like — every single inch of your life has been dictated to you by someone else, programmed and conditioned to the point where most people don’t even know who they are anymore.

That is what this course is about: finding out who you are and creating a blueprint that fits you, not one that was put on you by others, who had theirs put on them by others, who had theirs put on them by others, and so on.

And this blueprint of yours (and mine) is so strong that it takes no effort on your part to create huge effects. Just look around you right now — you made what you see! While you might not have physically made it, you (like the architect of the battleship I talked about earlier), set events in motion which brought it to wherever you are right now, either by you physically moving to it (if, for example, you’re sitting in a park or a restaurant right now), or you bought it and took it home. The way you feel when you look at what you’re seeing, the way you view your surroundings and the people around you, everything in your life is made up of what you have been certain of.

Here’s what I see as the problem with the usual way people go about “changing their life”: they make a resolution, or set a goal, and go through all this mental effort to force themselves to do something, but since every effect (even the thing they want to change, say, being overweight, or smoking) has a definite cause, working to change the effect without changing the cause is doomed to fail. They haven’t even done a thing to change the blueprint which says “oh what a big boy Johnny is!” or “smoking makes you cool” or whatever the blueprint is, that jolt of pleasure you get for doing what you do which you know you shouldn’t.

And there’s something else which is even more important, that I have known about for many weeks, but just now really became certain of today:

Mental effort defeats itself — exactly the opposite of physical effort. A relaxed, calm state of mind is the only doorway to progress mentally. Relaxation of thought is the only access to Infinite Intelligence.

This is otherwise known as the Law of Relaxation, and has been stuck up on my wall since … I don’t know, week 3 or so? It makes me laugh to think of how it has been there the whole time.

So everyone all over the world is making “resolutions” right now: using the wrong tools (mental effort) to change effects (not causes), then after a few months, failing, repeatedly training their subby to fail, then next year either giving up (because they are certain they aren’t good enough) or vowing to do even more of this next year, because they are certain that this will work. I mean, that’s what everyone else does!

Not only that, but they are doing something else which Haanel warns against, and which was my problem the other day:

Are we to inform the Omniscient as to the proper channel to be used to materialize our demand? Can the finite advise the Infinite? This is the cause of failure …

As Albert Einstein said, insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

So what is the answer?

The main thing is to create a new blueprint which is stronger and better than the old one ever was, which it will be because it will be in alignment with who you really are. Once this new blueprint is made, doing what you want and getting what you want will be as easy and effortless as doing and getting what you have at present.

Creating and associating pleasure from doing the things which correspond with the life you want (and conversely, pain from doing the things you don’t want) is a big step, and one thing which we’ve learned how to do this week. But of course, Haanel once again emphasizes that “we must put our knowledge into practice” — just as an athlete will never become stronger by reading about lifting weights or running or whatever he or she wants to do, we aren’t going to change our blueprints by reading about how to do it. Not gonna happen.

But must use the right tools. Using woodworking tools to mix concrete, or concrete tools to work with wood, results in destroyed tools and ruined materials both. So how can we make sure we’re going to succeed?

Haanel writes:

We can best conserve our interests by recognizing the Infinite Power and Infinite Wisdom of the Universal Mind, and in this way become a channel whereby the Infinite can bring about the realization of our desire.

In other words, prioritize: put those 2000 connections of your conscious mind to work on figuring out what you want out of life. Exactly what, down to the smallest detail. Let the 4 billion connections of your subby and the infinite power of the Universal Mind work on the how. Spending your 2000 connections worrying about how this is all going to happen just manifests anxiety and fear when you can’t get it to work. This week, I learned this the hard way.

Use the right tools for the job and it becomes much easier. ๐Ÿ™‚

Week 12: let abundance in!

This week has been … the only word that even comes close is mind-blowing. But that doesn’t do it justice.

We began with an exercise which was the most amazing experience I’ve had in my 52 years here on this earth, and I’ve experienced quite a bit. I won’t spoil it with details for those of you thinking of joining the course next year, but I was able to tap into what Davene called “your true self” for just a few moments, and it was incredible.

Definitely worth it.

But there’s more!

The reading this week … I haven’t totally gotten my head around it all yet, but I’ll try to share as much as I can.

I’ve come to dislike the requirement to post the blog so early in the week, because I invariably want to write more at the end of the week as I feel like I finally understand some things, and then of course everyone just focuses on that last post and ignores the one with the meat in it that I spent so long working on. But that’s life, I guess. ๐Ÿ™‚

Part 12 begins by reminding us to focus, to keep going forward, and to have “eternal vigilance” about our thoughts. Sounds a lot like the mental diet! ๐Ÿ˜‰

But then, Haanel says something that I found very interesting:

There are three steps, and each one is absolutely essential. You must first have the knowledge of your power; second, the courage to dare; third, the faith to do.

Now, Mark J did something during the webinar this week that this reminded me of: he wrote out checks to people who had helped him with doing something (I forget now what, but it had to do I think with helping promote the MKMMA) and he said that this was creating a demand (!) for his future project to work.

So his faith to do created in his mind a demand for subby to produce the funds for what he’s up to!

(Now, I’m sure he has the money in the bank, don’t get me wrong. But I can tell that he’s up to something bigger.)

Anyway, back to Haanel:

… you can construct an ideal business, an ideal home, ideal friends, and an ideal environment. You are not restricted as to material or cost. Thought is omnipotent and has the power to draw on the Infinite bank of primary substance for all that it requires. Infinite resources are therefore at your command.

But your ideal must be sharp, clear-cut, definite …

He goes on to talk about people who are constantly going from one thing to another, and how “indecision and negative thought” can cause the loss of everything you’ve worked for. Then he says:

… the only real power which you can have is the power to adjust yourself to Divine and unchangeable principles. You cannot change the Infinite, but you can come into an understanding of Natural laws. The reward of this understanding is a conscious realization of your ability to adjust your thought faculties with the Universal Thought which is Omnipotent. Your ability to cooperate with this Omnipotence will indicate the degree of success with which you meet.

Basically, you got to get out of your own way. You have the overwhelming abundance of the entire universe at your command! But you have to decide what you want, you have to let go of fear, negativity, and stubbornness (I see people reject this whole thing because of a closed mind, which Haanel later calls the lack of “a corresponding vibratory brain cell prepared to receive it”), and you have enough faith to work at it. (remember the whole vigilance part?)

The law is that thought will correlate with its object and bring forth in the material world the correspondence of the thing thought or produced in the mental world. We then discern the absolute necessity of seeing that every thought has the inherent germ of truth in order that the law of growth will bring into manifestation good; for good alone can confer any permanent power.

Then he goes on to say something really interesting:

… the law of the attraction, which is another name for love.

… It is feeling that imparts vitality to thought. Feeling is desire, and desire is love. Thought impregnated with love becomes invincible.

This is why Mark keeps harping on having enthusiasm (the word literally means “possession by a god”!). Intense feeling attached to a thought gives that thought power, gets your subby going after it 24/7 with all 4 billion connections, taps into the Universal Mind’s infinite resources, and all that good stuff. (or bad, depending on the thought) This is how the law of attraction works.

Our sit this week seems to me to be focused on continuing to develop the knowledge of our power, which I feel is this: Since each of us is a fractal curl on the huge universal design, I have been given the same amount of power as Bill Gates, Martha Stewart, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, JK Rowling, you name it (ie. infinite). My solar plexus is just as good as theirs. There is no real reason why I can’t achieve my dreams as much as they have theirs.

I just have to learn to use that power, to get out of my own way, to become enthusiastic in cooperating with the Universal Mind, in order to let all that abundance in. ๐Ÿ™‚

Week 8: the power of imagination

When I think of the power of imagination, like most people who grew up as I did, I think of Willy Wonka and his amazing factory, where everything was “eatable”:

Come with me and you’ll be
In a world of pure imagination
Take a look and you’ll see
Into your imagination …

… If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world, there’s nothing to it

There is no life I know
To compare with pure imagination
Living there, you’ll be free
If you truly wish to be

This movie was partly the inspiration for my own adventures into edible landscaping, which has spawned a whole business, and one of my dreams is to influence the way home food gardening is seen in our society.

But what is imagination, really?

Haanel says, “Imagination is the constructive form of thought which must precede every constructive form of action.”

He goes on to give many examples: the architect of a building or the builder of a battleship must first imagine the finished product before any material can be purchased; the Captain of Industry must first imagine how he or she wants their corporation to become before the first employees can be hired or the first capital for their venture raised.

Again he stresses that the law of attraction will bring to you what you persistently hold in your mind, whatever that is, good or bad (!), so it’s vital — that is, if you want to succeed — for your thoughts to be positive, harmonious, and constructive, for as much of the time as possible.

You can not entertain weak, harmful, negative thoughts ten hours a day and expect to bring about beautiful, strong and harmonious conditions by ten minutes of strong, positive, creative thought.

So we’re on the mental diet still, well, at least I am. I don’t think anyone in the group has gone a full seven days without entertaining a negative thought, so if you signed up to get the mental diet (and get notified of new posts), and you’re having trouble, don’t worry, you’re not alone!

(actually, you should have gotten some tips to help you out ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

But it’s the persistent thoughts that we hold that make the difference. Just like exercising your body, when you exercise your mind it grows stronger and you can keep hold of positive thoughts longer.

So imagine good and wonderful things so you can get closer to getting them in your life!

Week 7: seeing more clearly

This week we’ve been doing a whole lot of things: making a recording of our DMP and various tasks, doing a “mental diet”, and of course, part 7.

Part 7 is very interesting because to me it lays out pretty clearly how to do this whole manifestation thing. I was able to make more improvements to my diagram and it seems as if I can understand things much better.

The basic idea is that the Law of Attraction works for everyone! You think about something, then your subby brings it to you. If you think about debt, fear, loss (as in worrying all the time), sickness, and death, then that’s what you’ll get. If you think about wealth, peace, abundance, health, and life, you’ll get that too.

It’s all about what you think of and picture in your life. Just as an architect pictures what he or she wants to build, then draws the blueprints, then creates the building, we picture in our minds first before our subby draws the blueprints and creates what we’ve been thinking of.

Each repeated [thought] renders the image more clear and accurate than the preceding, and in proportion to the clearness and accuracy of the image will the outward manifestationย  be.

All you have to do to change your life is to change what you think about. This is what we’ve been working on this week.
