Finding time for yourself

I’ve had a lot of people asking me questions this week about the Master Key Experience. The number one question has been: can I do this? The thrust of this is generally around the time commitment.

So I direct them to this page.

But this is what I think is going on. Because, as Mark likes to point out, you can’t manage time. It ticks past no matter what you do. But you can manage yourself.

A man named Joseph Campbell got interested in stories, so he went around collecting stories from all over. Religion, mythology, literature, movies, plays, and he found they were all similar. So similar, in fact, that he wrote a book about it, called “The Hero’s Journey”.heros_journey4_8462

He also made a chart, and his work has been talked about a lot. In fact, when George Lucas made the first Star Wars movie, he asked Joseph Campbell to consult on the movie, because he wanted to get it just right.

This is a very abbreviated version of his chart, which I’ll expand on in a bit.

You see the little guy at the top? That’s you! You are the hero in this story. You’re being called to an adventure.

You might be saying, “How can I be a hero? I’m just an ordinary (fill in the blank).” All heroes say that. All heroes begin that way. But you are one. You just don’t know it yet. And you’re being called to an adventure.

You don’t know what’s going to happen.

You’re in your comfortable “known” life. Things are probably not okay (if they were okay, you wouldn’t need to be called to go on the adventure, you hero, you!), but they’re “known”. Things are safe, they’re routine, you know what will happen and when it will happen.

And then someone or something calls you. It could be a weird old guy who tells you to go to Alderaan, like in Star Wars. Or it could be God, like what happened to Jonah. Or it could be your own desire for something better. It doesn’t matter who or what calls you. What matters is that you’re being called.

How do you know you’re being called? You can feel it. You know it. Deep down, you know that this is your call.

You want to know the way you can be sure it’s your call? Because you resist it.Heros-Journey

You see where it says “Refusal of the call”? Everyone does it. Every hero does it.

Luke Skywalker told Obi-Wan no.

Jonah told God no.

Bilbo Baggins told Gandalf no.

You’re trying to figure out a way to say no too. And it’s okay.

There are as many ways to say no as there are people. My way was to get paranoid about the pay-it-forward. Your way might be something different. But most people freak out about something. My friends seem to be freaking out about the time commitment.

Which is only nine or ten hours a week at most, 45 minutes a day plus a 2 hour webinar on Sunday. If you can’t find 45 minutes a day for yourself, you REALLY need this course, because your life is way out of balance.

There’s another chart which I didn’t post here because it’s way too complicated, but it has a part which says “Bargaining without knowledge”. They’re trying to use the known world rules in the unknown.

People who do this have to know every bit about everything about the course before they join. Resisting the call.

Or they want to know can they just do some parts of it. Resisting the call.

Or they want to just do it one day of the week. Resisting the call.

It’s okay. Like I said, we all do it. The question is, what will it take for you to answer the call? To commit to the journey? To be the hero you’re being called to be?

When I started this, I was married, with three grown kids, running three online businesses, in a network marketing company, writing a novel, and doing a whole lot of other things, plus I had a pretty serious health condition. I’m still doing all those things (Although I’ve kind of put the network marketing business to the side. It’s just not what I want.). But I’m doing them better, stronger, faster. My health is a lot better too. 😉

Seriously. I’ve done flash cards in the bathroom. I’ve done my reading while waiting for my kids to get done with something. One class member has five small children and works full time. Another travels extensively. Another homeschools her kids. They all finished. If you want to do this you can do it.

Or you can wait until next year. Or you don’t have to do it at all. It’s up to you.

I don’t get paid for telling you to sign up. I want you to join because this will help you. They will fill this course, the question is really whether you’ll be there or whether you won’t.

You don’t do this on your own. You don’t even go into the unknown on your own. You’re going to get a mentor. See the mentor there? But first you have to accept the call.

Find time for yourself. You’re worth it. The world is waiting for you to be who you are.
